Hikers Find it All at Manning Park

My friends: you know about a lot of hikes in our local mountains, you know about trail etiquette, gear and connections. And if you haven’t collected my blurbs you will have Dawn Hanna’s book and maybe the new edition of the 103 hikes in Southwestern BC updated by Jack Bryceland.

I think you are ready to do your own thing. My latest suggestion will lure you a bit further away – to Manning Park.

There you can have it all, for every fitness level and everybody from 1 to 99 will have a good time, summer and winter!

To get there take Highway 1 to Hope, then follow Highway 3 east to Manning Park Lodge. That will be the beginning of a lot of adventures.

Drop in at the Parks Information Centre to see exhibits of the area and ask questions about conditions of the trails of your choice and weather reports.

Take your guidebooks with you. Dawn Hanna’s gives you really easy-to-follow hikes for every level of fitness from easy to strenuous. For beginners and families the Lightening Lakes offer varied hikes, boating, fishing, swimming and the likes. For the hotshots there is backpacking via the Three Brothers to Kicking Horse campground across the blooming meadows, a favorite of our club for many years.

There is something for all. And the Park is great in the winter months, too. You can rent a cabin (we normally reserve our spot a year ahead). Get a few friends together to share the cost. Bring your own food.

A beautiful way to have a family vacation. Snow shoeing, skiing and the hot tub at the Lodge at the end of the day. If after all that you are too lazy to cook, they have a nice restaurant, too.

You will never get bored in this beautiful park and if you invest more effort for your hikes the chance of too many people gets thinner and thinner.

Happy Trails
I hope you were entertained over these years! Today I say good bye, since retirement gives me the freedom to hike even more. Look for the crazy hat on your trails… Many thanks to the team at the North Shore Magazine, I had a good time with you all.

Love you all, Olga.
