Up-To-Date Fashion Can Draw From The Past

’Tis the season once again! I can’t believe how time flies. For all of you fashionistas out there, here’s a little advice for this busy time of year to keep you looking up-to-date. And here’s an early Christmas gift: you may be able to dig some of these things out of your closet from days gone by.
Glitter
Oh yes, you read it right! Whether it’s a gunmetal grey tank under a black suit jacket or silver dress, you will be dazzling at the staff Christmas party. But you can also go for gold or even bronze – both of these colours are also very sharp. If, like me, you’re not a glittery gal, try some great shiny jewels. Chandelier earrings are a great accessory, as is a black belt with some bling on it. A long strand of layered pearls will also do the trick.
The Bootie
AKA the ankle boot. How to wear these? With a skirt -- but please, ladies, remember to wear an opaque tight with this look. They are also great under a trouser or with a skinny jean (although, I must say, the skinny jean is best left to those of you who have long lean legs). I would definitely invest in a pair of these terrific little boots as I believe they will be even stronger next fall. If you’re really fashion forward, get a pair in patented leather. Oh yes, patented is back! If you can dig a great pair of patented pumps with a peek-a-boo toe out of your closet and wipe the dust off, you can wear them with confidence knowing they are once again “in.”
A Great Top
If you have a number of functions to go to, with some being casual and some being a little more dressy, go with a feminine blouse with a little lace and a bell sleeve. You can wear this look with a pair of jeans or with a great pair of black pants to dress it up.
The Little Black Dress
When in doubt, go for the little black dress with a classic pump or a strappy shoe. It may not be the latest, up-to-date, trendy item, but you can get away with this look pretty much anywhere.
Outerwear
Outerwear is one thing that you should invest some money in. A great jacket can complete a look. If you are predominately a denim wearer, go for the leather. A black or brown bomber style jacket paired with a soft colourful scarf and a great pair of boots will scream “in style.” If you’re a hockey mom, go for a long puffy down jacket with a hood and a faux fur trim. If you’re a business woman, go for a cashmere/wool blend pea coat. And, living in North Vancouver, whether you choose leather, down or cashmere, you should also get yourself an umbrella!
The Face
For the evening, get a little wild with your make-up. Put on that red ruby lipstick, dust a little glitter on your cleavage and make your eyes smoky and seductive. And most of all, have some fun!
Happy Holidays.
